| I am 36 years old, married, the mother of a 4 year old boy, and I used to weigh 187 lbs, but now weigh 128 lbs (have been at this weight for over a year). I feel like there is a disconnect between my body and how I ?see? (perceive) my body. As a result, I have not made the best choices over the past year as I replaced my wardrobe.
I seem to have an ongoing problem with fit, size, cut, and age appropriateness. It has been mentioned to that at times I dress more like a 19 year old hairdresser, than the manager of a law firm?? |

Bravo on losing the weight. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, that maybe you're getting clothes too tight because you can fit in them. Wearing clothes that are too tight will make you look like a 19 year-old hairdresser. You can wear formfitting clothes, but not skin scrunching clothes. If you're going to have a little formfitting on the top, then do a little looser clothes on the bottom and vice versa, so you're clothes aren't too skimpy. If you have a tummy, make sure you don't have any rolls showing, even at 128 lbs. you can still have rolls showing, and that doesn't work.
What kind of law firm? Who are your clients? Are you in Silicon Valley start up land? Are you a lawyer for divorce? A trial court lawyer? We need to know that because each type of law requires a different uniform.
You are a professional woman and you've got a 4 year-old child. That 4 year-old child is going to want to leap up into your arms for a big hug, so you will need clothes that have move with you. You should look at clothes with spandex in them. Also wear separates so if he wipes he grimy little hands on your blouse after he's been playing, you can just rinse it out and hang it up to dry. Trousers are also important ? you will need a really good pair of trousers. Don't skimp on these. If you can't find a pair that fit well on your body, take them to a really good tailor to fit them for you. You probably will not find a pair of trousers without having to alter them in some way. Then you can easily change tops for different looks. Make sure you don't show any cleavage in the tops you wear. You can also put on a cute little short jacket, or long jacket, depending on what's going on with your thighs. What is your silhouette? It is important for you to know whether you have a waist, are larger in the bosom or bottom, or large in both places! What's going on with your body?
Congratulations on changing your body image. That's a huge change! What's really interesting is that it takes time for someone who has lots weight to get that picture of getting heavy out of their mind. To help change that you need to look in the mirror more often. Just look in the mirror and admire your body. Not the flaws you might see, but enjoy the body God gave you
You can also do some physical exercise to make sure your smaller, thinner body is also fit and taught, and that your posture is good. I've found when you have more weight than your body wants, usually you walk with a heavy foot. Now that you're lighter, you have to lighten up your walk to match your body.
Let me know how you are doing with your clothes and image.
Sincerely,
Carla
